Congratulations to the Heart of Milwaukee!
What a great year it has been! In all three areas of our program the Heart of Milwaukee has excelled in the Scouting program. The district has recruited more youth, sold more popcorn, and recruited more leaders than a year ago. The volunteers in this district have great pride in Scouting and the results are proven. Thank you to all that has made the Scouting program a tremendous success.
Fall 2008 Popcorn Sale
Thank you to all the units who participated in Popcorn this year! If you did not have an opportunity to sell in fall we definitely encourage you to be a part of the Spring Popcorn Sale! If you would like additional information please call Alex Behrend at (414) 443-2853.
Popcorn has great advantages that every unit can enjoy.
The Advantages:
• Units choose to pay for summer camp with popcorn sales.
• Units use the popcorn sale to cover their activities for a year.
• Sell enough popcorn and you could even buy uniforms for your members.
• Sell popcorn to finance High Adventure trips to Philmont or other great locations.
The Klondike – Who, What, Where, When and How
All registered Cub Scouts in the Heart of Milwaukee are invited to participate in the Cub Scout Klondike. The Klondike is a half-day of outdoor winter fun and competition. All Scouts will work in dens and rotate through ten activities. Each Scout will receive a patch and have a soup lunch. The goal of the Klondike is to have fun. Please help us ensure the competition does not get in the way of having fun.
Volunteers who are interested in helping with this event are encouraged to come forward and help organize this event. If you are interested please contact Blanca Gonzales bgonzales@mccbsa.org.
The cost of the Klondike is yet to be determined. More information is to follow.
The Klondike will be held at Hawthorne Glen Park from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. We encourage Cub Scout Packs to attend.
Friends of Scouting (FOS)
Thank you to all units who have signed up for their 2008-2009 Friends of Scouting presentation. Heart of Milwaukee is off to a slow start, but this can easily change once all units begin to call in their designated dates and times. The Friends of Scouting presentation is very important for each unit to have; it is a chance for families to pay for “true cost of Scouting.” Please make this a priority on your unit’s calendar. Please contact Blanca Gonzales at (414) 433-2852 to schedule your date.
2008 Centennial Quality Unit Award
If you have not received your call from your district representative asking you about this very important award, please call Blanca Gonzales (414) 443-2852 for more details. This award takes the place of the Quality Unit Award and it is very important to the success of your program.
New Leader Essentials Training
As we start to get more boys signed up and more parents involved in the program, we need to get them trained. We have an excellent training team in our council that loves to show new parents how easy it is to get involved.
Heart of Milwaukee Training is scheduled for May 16, 2009.
District Executive Moment
It has been a pleasure getting to know all the units and volunteers who have been pouring their hearts into making such a great year possible. Scouting is something that one must believe in to achieve such great success and I am so honored to be working with such a dedicated group of people. This ensures me that our boys have very promising futures ahead of them with great memories.
If you would like to add to our district’s exciting news page, please submit information to me. Pictures, articles and stories are welcomed. If you have questions, please call Blanca Gonzales at 414-443-2852, or bgonzales@mccbsa.org.
