District Committee Root River District Committee is looking for some great volunteers to help keep the district and units in Root River strong. The committee meets the first Monday of each month at Greendale Health Department, lower level at 7:00 p.m. The District Committee, the commissioner staff and the District Director work together to recruit youth into the program, raise money and product sales to help the units and council be financially sound, promote training for adults and camping opportunities. They plan all the district activities for the units to attend and offer assistance and promote advancement opportunities. If you would like to get involved at the district level, contact Jeff Mantes, District Chair, at (414) 281-1778, or Margaret Williams, District Director, at (414) 443-2864. Brewers Scout Day - Monday, July 26, 2010 REGISTRATION FORM Unit Profile - Troop 506 Over the years Troop 506 has had a passion for flags, especially flag ceremonies. The troop has conducted roughly 5-8 ceremonies per year at various public and private events throughout our community and state. The troop display’s their flags regularly in all Greendale community parades including the Memorial Day, Forth of July, Village Days and Labor Day parades. Any Scouter in the Root River District might be familiar with the historical flags the troop display’s at many of our district events including the 2010 RR district Klondike recently held in January at IMR. Their flags have flown over every High Adventure they have taken this decade, from the White Mountains out east to the Colorado Rocky Mountains out west. Whenever they have the opportunity to present their flags they do. For the last 4 years they have had the privilege of presenting the flags at an opening ceremony held in the state capitol building in the Assembly chamber for “Project Citizen” which involves high school youth from around Wisconsin. They have even had the chance to do a flag ceremony at the “100 hours of Honor” held in Madison, WI at the VFW post when the ˝ size Vietnam Wall was there a few years back. That was a very moving experience. For the last 5 years Troop 506 have had the privilege of presenting the flags at an opening ceremony held at the leadership breakfast for Milwaukee County Council, Boy Scouts of America. It is an impressive site to see 30 Scouts carrying in different period flags followed by the nation’s flags. One of the favorite ceremonies they do is at “Wilson Commons” senior living center on Milwaukee’s south side. This flag ceremony is always around “Flag Day” in June every year. The troop rolls out all the flags and honors the men and women who served our country living there. Included with the flag ceremony is the singing of all the Military branch songs that the residents really get into and show there spirit followed by an ice cream social. Troop 506 proudly believes in the symbolism and meaning behind every flag they display as each one tells a unique story in our nation’s history. |
