The Heritage Society

The Heritage Society is a program that recognizes men and women who believe in preserving the tradition and values of Scouting, as well as perpetuating its future for generations to come.

The council acknowledges their foresight and generosity and bestows lifetime membership to all men and women who make an outright gift to the Trust Fund for Scouting of at least $1,000 or who designate a gift of at least $5,000 to be made through a deferred gift such as their estate.

What is the Council Endowment Fund?
The Endowment Fund is a trust that was established by the Board of Directors of our council.  Gifts to this fund are held in perpetuity meaning that the original gift amount is never spent, but rather invested.  The earnings from this investment are then used to bring Scouting to our central city, suburban and other local young people.  A gift to the Council Endowment Fund truly is the gift that keeps on giving - forever!  The Trustees Committee of our council oversees the annual investment of our Council Endowment Fund.

The annual Heritage Society Reception is held in honor of Society members.  All Heritage Society members receive a handsome certificate and an attractive pin.  Member's names are engraved on the Heritage Society plaque prominently displayed in the lobby of the Scout Service Center.

The Trust Fund for Scouting is the council's perpetual endowment fund.  It is the accumulation of gifts over our 96 years by persons committed to the future of our country and nation.  The interest generated by the fund each year helps support our summer camps, our urban emphasis, and unit service programs, as well as scholarships to young people.

As of December 31, 2007, the total of all endowed funds was approximately $6.4 million.  The fund is locally managed and monitored by local Board of Trustees through M&I Wealth Management.
